Brief Posting Description
The Senior Engineer – Reliability & Performance is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving reliability engineering, asset performance, maintenance optimization, and continuous improvement programs across mining, mineral processing, utilities, and infrastructure assets. The role ensures optimal equipment reliability, availability, maintainability, and operational performance through the application of reliability engineering principles, asset management practices, performance analytics, and data-driven decision-making.
The position provides technical leadership in Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM), Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), asset criticality assessment, maintenance strategy optimization, equipment performance monitoring, and reliability improvement initiatives. The role supports Operations, Maintenance, Inspection, and Projects teams by driving sustainable reliability improvements, maximizing asset value, reducing lifecycle costs, and enhancing overall business performance.
Detailed Description
RELIABILITY ENGINEERING & STRATEGY MANAGEMENT
Develop and continuously improve site reliability engineering programs and methodologies.
Establish reliability strategies for fixed plant, mobile equipment, utilities, and infrastructure assets.
Lead asset reliability improvement initiatives to improve equipment availability and operational performance.
Develop reliability standards, procedures, and best practices.
Facilitate reliability reviews and equipment performance assessments.
Support long-term asset management and lifecycle planning activities.
Ensure reliability objectives align with business and operational requirements.
ASSET PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT
Monitor and analyze asset performance, equipment utilization, and operational efficiency.
Develop asset performance indicators and equipment health indices.
Identify performance gaps, bottlenecks, and reliability constraints affecting production.
Conduct performance benchmarking and improvement studies.
Support initiatives to improve plant throughput, asset utilization, and operating effectiveness.
Drive operational excellence through performance analysis and continuous improvement methodologies.
Establish performance improvement roadmaps for critical assets.
RELIABILITY-CENTERED MAINTENANCE (RCM)
Lead Reliability-Centered Maintenance studies for critical assets.
Review and optimize maintenance strategies based on equipment criticality and risk.
Develop maintenance task plans and reliability improvement recommendations.
Optimize preventive, predictive, condition-based, and corrective maintenance programs.
Ensure maintenance strategies support reliability and business objectives.
Participate in maintenance program reviews and audits.
FAILURE ANALYSIS & DEFECT ELIMINATION
Lead Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) investigations for significant equipment failures.
Facilitate Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) studies.
Analyze recurring failures and reliability issues.
Identify bad actors and develop corrective action plans.
Monitor implementation and effectiveness of reliability improvement actions.
Promote defect elimination methodologies throughout maintenance and operations teams.
Capture lessons learned and implement sustainable solutions.
ASSET CRITICALITY & RISK MANAGEMENT
Lead asset criticality assessments across all plant and infrastructure assets.
Develop and maintain asset criticality rankings and risk profiles.
Support risk-based maintenance and reliability decision-making processes.
Evaluate operational, safety, environmental, and financial risks associated with asset failures.
Participate in HAZID, HAZOP, risk assessments, and reliability reviews.
Support business continuity and risk mitigation initiatives.
MAINTENANCE OPTIMIZATION
Analyze maintenance effectiveness and identify improvement opportunities.
Optimize preventive maintenance frequencies and task content.
Support development of predictive and condition-based maintenance programs.
Evaluate work management performance and maintenance execution effectiveness.
Improve maintenance productivity through data analytics and best practice implementation.
Support spare parts optimization and critical equipment strategies.
PERFORMANCE ANALYTICS & REPORTING
Develop and maintain reliability and performance dashboards.
Monitor and report key performance indicators including:

CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT & OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE
Drive continuous improvement initiatives utilizing Lean, Six Sigma, and reliability improvement methodologies.
Facilitate reliability workshops and improvement programs.
Support operational excellence initiatives across Maintenance and Operations.
Identify opportunities to reduce equipment downtime and maintenance costs.
Develop business cases for reliability improvement projects.
Track improvement initiatives and benefits realization.
PROJECTS & CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT SUPPORT
Support capital projects through reliability engineering reviews and maintainability assessments.
Participate in design reviews to ensure reliability and maintainability requirements are met.
Review equipment specifications and engineering deliverables.
Support commissioning, startup, and asset handover activities.
Ensure lessons learned are incorporated into future project designs.
SHUTDOWN & TURNAROUND SUPPORT
Support maintenance shutdown planning and execution activities.
Identify reliability risks and equipment intervention requirements.
Analyze equipment history and recommend shutdown maintenance activities.
Participate in shutdown reviews and performance assessments.
Support post-shutdown reliability verification activities.
CONTRACTOR & CONSULTANT MANAGEMENT
Coordinate reliability studies conducted by consultants and specialist service providers.
Review technical reports, recommendations, and engineering studies.
Monitor contractor performance and quality of deliverables.
Ensure reliability-related services comply with company standards and objectives.
SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT & QUALITY
Promote and maintain a strong reliability and safety culture throughout the organization.
Ensure compliance with all HSE policies, procedures, and statutory requirements.
Participate in risk assessments, audits, and investigations.
Ensure reliability solutions support safe and environmentally responsible operations.
Support the implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
Ensure compliance with quality management and asset management standards.
PEOPLE LEADERSHIP & DEVELOPMENT
Provide technical leadership and mentoring to reliability engineers and maintenance personnel.
Develop reliability competencies across maintenance and operations teams.

COST CONTROL & BUDGET MANAGEMENT
Develop and manage budgets related to reliability improvement initiatives.

Support lifecycle cost analysis and asset investment decisions.
Develop business cases for reliability and performance enhancement projects.
Ensure effective financial governance and reporting.
Job Requirements
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Asset Management, or equivalent discipline.
Experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree with 10+ years or Higher Diploma with 15+ years of experience in reliability engineering, asset management, maintenance optimization, and performance improvement within mining, minerals processing, oil & gas, petrochemical, power generation, or heavy industrial operations.
• Minimum 5 years in senior reliability, asset management, maintenance excellence, or performance improvement role.
• Experience supporting commissioning, start-up, and operational ramp-up activities is desirable.
Certifications: Candidates holding or pursuing any of the following certifications will have an added advantage:
• Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP).
• Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE).
• Asset Reliability Practitioner (ARP-E, ARP-L, or ARP-A).
• Certified Asset Management Assessor (CAMA).
• IAM Certificate or Diploma in Asset Management.
• Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) Practitioner Certification
• Root Cause Analysis (RCA) / Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) Certification.
