Brief Posting Description
The Senior Engineer – Flotation & De-watering Maintenance is responsible for leading the maintenance, reliability, availability, and performance optimization of flotation, thickening, filtration, dewatering, slurry handling, and associated process plant equipment within mineral processing operations.
The role ensures the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of flotation and dewatering assets through effective maintenance strategies, shutdown planning, reliability improvement initiatives, asset integrity management, and continuous improvement programs. The position provides technical leadership to maintenance teams, supports operational excellence, and maximizes equipment availability while minimizing lifecycle costs, production losses, and process interruptions.The incumbent is responsible for the maintenance and reliability of flotation cells, Concorde Cells, reagent systems, slurry pumps, concentrate and tailings thickeners, filtration equipment, process water recovery systems, and associated mechanical equipment. The role works closely with Operations, Process, Reliability, and Project teams to achieve production, recovery, concentrating quality, water recovery, and asset performance objectives while ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and asset management standards.
Detailed Description
FLOTATION & DE-WATERING MAINTENANCE MANAGEMENT
Lead maintenance activities for flotation cells, reagent preparation and dosing systems, concentrate and tailings thickeners, filtration systems, slurry pumps, pipelines, and associated auxiliary equipment.
Ensure maintenance practices support safe, reliable, and efficient operation of flotation and dewatering facilities.
Develop and implement maintenance strategies to maximize equipment reliability, availability, and process performance.
Monitor equipment condition and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
Ensure compliance with OEM recommendations, maintenance standards, and statutory requirements.
Support long-term asset lifecycle management and replacement planning.
Provide technical guidance on maintenance planning, scheduling, and execution.
EQUIPMENT RELIABILITY & PERFORMANCE
Lead reliability improvement initiatives for flotation cells, thickeners, filter systems, pumps, agitators, blowers, and associated equipment.
Analyze equipment failures and identify opportunities to improve reliability and maintainability.
Conduct Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) for major equipment breakdowns.
Facilitate Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) studies.
Identify recurring equipment issues and implement sustainable corrective actions.
Develop reliability-centered maintenance strategies.
Monitor equipment performance against established reliability and availability KPIs.
MAINTENANCE PLANNING & EXECUTION
Support the development of annual maintenance plans and budgets for flotation and dewatering assets.
Review and optimize preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
Optimize maintenance frequencies and task scopes based on equipment criticality and performance.
Coordinate maintenance resources for planned and corrective maintenance activities.
Ensure work orders are properly executed, documented, and closed in SAP PM.
Improve maintenance work management processes and effectiveness.
Monitor maintenance backlog and prioritize critical equipment activities.
SHUTDOWN & TURNAROUND MANAGEMENT
Lead preparation and execution of flotation, thickening, filtration, and dewatering plant shutdown activities.
Develop shutdown scopes, resource requirements, budgets, and schedules.
Coordinate contractors and internal teams during shutdown execution.
Monitor shutdown progress and manage critical path activities.
Ensure shutdown work complies with safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
Conduct post-shutdown reviews and capture lessons learned.
ASSET INTEGRITY MANAGEMENT
Ensure the mechanical integrity of critical flotation and dewatering equipment.
Monitor wear-life performance of flotation mechanisms, thickener components, filter assemblies, pumps, piping systems, and associated equipment.
Review inspection findings and establish corrective maintenance actions.
Support condition monitoring and predictive maintenance programs.
Participate in risk assessments and asset criticality evaluations.
Ensure compliance with asset management standards and engineering requirements.
TECHNICAL SUPPORT & TROUBLESHOOTING
Provide advanced troubleshooting support for major flotation and dewatering equipment failures.
Review vibration analysis, thermography, lubrication analysis, and condition monitoring reports.
Support operations in resolving equipment performance and process reliability issues.
Evaluate equipment modifications and engineering improvements.
Review OEM recommendations, technical reports, and equipment upgrade proposals.
Support commissioning, testing, and startup of new equipment and system modifications.
CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment availability, process recovery, throughput, and water recovery efficiency.
Identify opportunities to reduce maintenance costs and minimize unplanned downtime.
Implement reliability improvement and Lean Maintenance methodologies.
Develop business cases for equipment upgrades and improvement projects.
Track and report benefits realized from improvement initiatives.
Promote maintenance and operational best practices across the organization.
SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT & QUALITY
Promote a strong safety culture within all maintenance activities.
Ensure compliance with company HSE policies, procedures, and statutory requirements.
Participate in incident investigations, audits, and risk assessments.
Ensure maintenance activities are performed in accordance with approved procedures and standards.
Support implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
Ensure compliance with quality management and asset management systems.
CONTRACTOR MANAGEMENT
Supervise contractors engaged in maintenance and shutdown activities within the flotation and dewatering areas.
Review contractor performance, safety compliance, and quality of work.
Validate technical deliverables and maintenance execution standards.
Ensure contractor activities align with company requirements and expectations.
PEOPLE’S LEADERSHIP & DEVELOPMENT
Provide technical leadership and mentoring to maintenance supervisors, planners, and technicians.
Develop team competencies related to flotation, thickening, filtration, slurry handling, and dewatering equipment.

COST CONTROL & BUDGET MANAGEMENT
Support preparation and management of maintenance budgets.
Monitor maintenance expenditure against approved budgets.

Support lifecycle cost analysis and asset replacement planning.
Develop business cases for maintenance and capital improvement projects.
Ensure effective financial governance, reporting, and budget control.
Job Requirements
Education: • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field or higher Diploma
Experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree with 10+ years or Higher Diploma with 15+ years of experience in a Concentrator Plant/related process plant with similar type of equipment
• 8+ years of experience in the mining/processing industry or related.
• Proven track record of successfully managing maintenance in large-scale processing maintenance
Certifications: Candidates holding or pursuing any of the following certifications will have an added advantage:
• Six-sigma (BB)
Technical Skills:
• Maintenance Experience in flotation, Concorde Cells, Thickeners, Filter presses, Pressure Filters, Slurry pumps and accessories, Valves and associated Aux systems, Froth Handling Systems are must
• Maintenance experience on Crushers, Mills & Utility (Air & water) equipment are added advantages
• Should have knowledge on maintenance strategies, CMMS/ERP systems, Reliability and Performance Management
